In an electrifying PVL showdown, the PLDT High Speed Hitters triumphed over Petro Gazz in five sets, culminating their 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) second All-Filipino Conference at Philsports Arena. Despite being out of the semifinals, both teams delivered a riveting performance in a two-hour nail-biter, despite missing key players like Rhea Dimaculangan, Erika Santos, Grethcel Soltones, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, and Remy Palma.

Savannah Davison’s exceptional 29-point performance was the game-changer, propelling PLDT High Speed Hitters from a 1-2 deficit to a resounding win in the fourth set, eventually securing a triumphant 7-4 season finish. Her 26 attacks, three blocks, 15 excellent receptions, and 10 digs underscored her instrumental role in this thrilling victory.

Davison, the Filipino-Canadian standout, expressed her commitment to returning for the next PVL conference, driven by the pursuit of a championship with PLDT High Speed Hitters. “I’ll be back for a little. So hopefully it’s all growth from here on out,” she shared. The team’s focus remains on progress and collective improvement, inching towards the ultimate goal of clinching the championship.

Alongside Davison, Jules Samonte contributed significantly with 11 points, while Fiola Ceballos added seven. Anj Legacion, the setter, showcased 19 excellent sets, complemented by Kath Arado’s stellar performance with 29 digs and 10 receptions, fortifying PLDT’s gameplay.

Coach Rald Ricafort emphasized the team’s relentless pursuit of improvement, acknowledging the missed semifinals while highlighting the invaluable experience gained by players like Davison in the competitive PVL arena. This exposure is expected to fuel their growth and adaptation in the upcoming conference.

Petro Gazz, a previous finalist in the inaugural All-Filipino Conference, concluded this season in sixth place with a 6-5 record. Jonah Sabete’s stellar performance, contributing 17 points alongside 13 digs and 13 receptions, stood out for the Angels. Marian Buitre and Nicole Tiamzon added 14 and 13 points, respectively, while KC Galdones tallied 11 points.

Despite the outcome, the PLDT High Speed Hitters and Petro Gazz demonstrated their unwavering commitment and competitive spirit in an unforgettable PVL season finale.
