James Harden Joins LA Clippers in Blockbuster Trade, Eyes NBA Championship

In a major NBA trade deal, James Harden’s desire to join the Los Angeles Clippers has been fulfilled. The former Philadelphia 76ers star was officially shipped to the Clippers, creating significant buzz in the basketball world.

The trade, orchestrated on Monday night (Tuesday in the Philippines), involved Harden, P.J. Tucker, and rookie center Filip Petrusev heading to the Clippers, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Harden, a 10-time NBA All-Star, now forms an impressive alliance with fellow All-Stars Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George.

On the flip side, the 76ers acquired a roster of players, including Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, and KJ Martin. Additionally, they secured a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a 2029 pick swap, and an extra first-round pick from the Clippers. To finalize the trade, the 76ers are in discussions with a third team, as they intend to send the first-round draft pick they obtained from the Clippers. This move also paves the way for the release of veteran guard Danny Green, making room for the newly acquired players.

Harden’s trade marks a pivotal moment in his career, bringing him closer to the coveted NBA championship. The Clippers have assembled a formidable roster, and with Harden’s addition, they have significantly bolstered their title aspirations.

In a separate report from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, it’s noted that Harden is “ecstatic” about the trade, expressing his eagerness to join the Clippers and hoping for a swift transition to Los Angeles. This move is a realization of his long-standing desire to part ways with the 76ers.

Harden’s desire to leave Philadelphia stemmed from his unwillingness to collaborate with 76ers president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey, whom he publicly referred to as “a liar” on multiple occasions. Trade discussions involving Harden had been ongoing between the Clippers and 76ers since July, but a deal had proven elusive. The initial reluctance to include veteran guard Terance Mann in the trade had created an impasse.

However, over the weekend, the Clippers and 76ers rekindled their trade negotiations. It became increasingly untenable for Harden to continue with the 76ers, and this urgency eventually led to a trade agreement late on Monday night (Tuesday, Manila time).

Harden’s journey in the NBA has seen him don jerseys from multiple teams, with the Clippers now becoming his fifth team in the league. He embarked on his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder before moving to the Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and finally, the Philadelphia 76ers. This new chapter with the Clippers brings with it fresh opportunities and heightened championship aspirations for the seasoned star.
