Choco Mucho Triumphs Despite Challenges: Dominates Galeries Tower Highrisers

In a resilient performance, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans overcame adversity, securing their third consecutive victory in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) second All-Filipino Conference. Despite the absence of key players, Choco Mucho displayed their determination, defeating the winless Galeries Tower Highrisers with a score of 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna, Philippines.

Des Cheng’s season-ending injury left a significant void in the Choco Mucho lineup, and they were further depleted with the absence of Maddie Madayag, Isa Molde, and Cherry Nunag. However, the team found inspiration from their bench players who stepped up when needed.

Sisi Rondina emerged as a key contributor for Choco Mucho, leading the charge with 16 points. Her remarkable performance included 13 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, along with 10 digs and seven excellent receptions. The Flying Titans’ collective effort propelled them to a 3-1 record, creating a three-way tie for third place with PLDT and Chery Tiggo.

Rondina expressed the team’s determination to persevere in the face of adversity, stating, “We will continue to fight for our teammates like Des. We’re doing this for her and all of our teammates.” Des Cheng had suffered an ACL tear in her right knee the previous week.

Coach Dante Alinsunurin praised his team for their remarkable performance, as every player contributed to the victory. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m thankful for this win because all the players I called from the bench delivered despite our situation and the problems of the team.” The Flying Titans are now aiming for a fourth consecutive win when they face Nxled at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Rondina had confidence that her teammates would step up to fill the void left by Cheng and others. Caitlin Viray made a significant impact with 11 points, while Bea De Leon contributed 10 points, including two aces and a block. Deanna Wong showcased her skills with 14 excellent sets and two markers.

Regine Arocha, in her first start in the conference, shone with eight points, including a pair of aces, and seven excellent receptions. Her motivational words reflected the team’s spirit as they rallied together.

“We’re sad that Ate Des will no longer play. But we want her to relax, we will take care of the team as we wait for her,” Arocha said. The Choco Mucho Flying Titans demonstrated their resilience and unity as they faced challenges head-on.

On the other side, Galeries struggled and remained winless in the PVL, sharing a 0-4 record with Gerflor, as they continue to seek their first set victory in the league.
