In a showdown between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings, the Pelicans secured a 117-112 victory at Smoothie King Center, propelled by an impressive performance from EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov and an explosive display from Zion Williamson.

Vezenkov, making his mark in the NBA after his EuroLeague success, faced the challenge of guarding Williamson, who showcased his elite athleticism throughout the game. Williamson’s dominant performance, scoring 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting, proved pivotal in the Pelicans’ triumph over the Sacramento Kings.

The Pelicans, currently on a surge with four wins in their last five games, commenced a six-game home stand with a response to an earlier loss. Following a productive team meeting, they rallied to secure victories against top Western Conference teams like the Mavericks, Nuggets, and the Sacramento Kings.

Williamson attributed their recent success to the team’s unity and alignment of goals after the team meeting, stating, “We all got on the same page. It was a moment where we decided on our path, and we’ve committed to it.”

In a closely contested game, the Pelicans showcased resilience in the final moments, relying on their stars, as Williamson and Brandon Ingram stepped up in crucial situations. Williamson’s eight points in the fourth quarter and Ingram’s pivotal mid-range jumper highlighted their leadership on the court.

Despite struggling with outside shooting, making only seven three-pointers in the game, the Pelicans maintained control, primarily dominating in the paint. Their advantage in the interior game, outscoring the Sacramento Kings 62-28 inside and winning the rebounding battle 58-45, showcased their ability to control the key aspects of the game.

Coach Willie Green commended the team’s pride and commitment to their identity, emphasizing their lineup adjustment and determination to protect their home court, culminating in a 4-2 record in the home stand.

Looking ahead, the Pelicans, bolstered by their recent successes, prepare to face the Los Angeles Clippers in their final game of the In-Season Tournament group play after enjoying a Thanksgiving break. The team aims to carry forward their momentum and continue their journey in the tournament.
