National U Clinches Back-to-Back Titles in Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship

In a riveting match at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, National U displayed unwavering determination to secure a 25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20 victory against Santo Tomas, claiming their second consecutive title sweep in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Collegiate Pre-Season Championship Season 2.

Facing strong resistance from the Golden Tigresses, the Lady Bulldogs showcased resilience, notching their 18th consecutive win to replicate their flawless title run from the inaugural season. Mhicaela Belen, honored as the First Best Outside Hitter, emerged as a pivotal player, contributing 17 points solely through powerful attacks, including seven crucial points in the final stretch of the game.

Evangeline Alinsug and Alyssa Solomon, the back-to-back SSL Season MVP and Best Opposite Spiker, added significant firepower with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Best Setter Camilla Lamina orchestrated a steady offensive strategy, while Erin May Pangilinan, awarded as the First Best Middle Blocker and team captain, anchored the Lady Bulldogs’ formidable defense.

Reflecting on the victory, coach Norman Miguel acknowledged the impressive performance of UST, emphasizing their character and maturity. NU’s level of character, instilled from their high school championship days to UAAP women’s triumphs, contributed to their success in the SSL.

The Lady Bulldogs demonstrated exceptional dominance throughout the season, dropping only two sets in ten games. This mirrors their outstanding performance in the inaugural tournament, where they yielded merely two sets in an eight-game campaign.

Xyza Gula led the charge for Santo Tomas with 18 points, while Angeline Poyos and Regina Jurado contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, securing the runner-up position after finishing fourth last season.

In the bronze medal match, Far Eastern University (FEU) secured a sweep against Adamson with a spirited 25-18, 16-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-7 win. The Lady Tamaraws, led by standout performers Faida Bakanke, Gerzel Petallo, and Chenie Tagaod, showcased resilience and determination to claim their podium finish.

FEU’s commendable journey included a narrow 25-20, 25-19, 12-25, 14-25, 15-12 victory in Game 1, securing a bronze medal in Season 2, following NU and UST in the standings.
