NorthPort Secures Second Consecutive Win, Defeats Rain or Shine in PBA Commissioner’s Cup

In a thrilling showdown at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, the NorthPort Batang Pier clinched their second consecutive victory in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup, overcoming a spirited challenge from the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters with a final score of 113-103.

The Batang Pier asserted dominance, building a commanding 19-point lead (80-61) in the third quarter, fueled by a clutch 3-pointer from Arvin Tolentino. Rain or Shine, however, showcased resilience, mounting a comeback with seven consecutive points, highlighted by a triple from Mac Belo, narrowing the gap to 68-80.

Despite Tolentino’s timely responses from beyond the arc, the Elasto Painters continued their surge, scoring five unanswered points and entering the final frame just ten points adrift at 73-83. Rain or Shine intensified their efforts, cutting the deficit to single digits at 94-103, courtesy of an and-one play by Santi Santillan.

In a gripping fourth quarter, Rain or Shine displayed determination, narrowing the margin to just four points (99-103) with a layup by Andrei Caracut. Yet, NorthPort demonstrated resilience, sealing the victory with a decisive six-point run, capped by a crucial layup from Cade Flores, securing a 109-99 lead.

Despite Rain or Shine’s late resurgence, NorthPort remained composed, ultimately closing the door on any potential comeback. Arvin Tolentino emerged as the star of the game, contributing a career-high 35 points off the bench. Import Venky Jois continued his stellar performance with an impressive stat line of 30 points, 21 rebounds, and seven assists.

Although Rain or Shine’s DaJuan Summers delivered an outstanding performance with 32 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks, the team faced challenges, including turnovers. With this victory, NorthPort extends its winning streak in the early stages of the PBA season, while Rain or Shine falls to a 0-2 record.
